Usually, writer start with an idea. But I was thinking, what if you just dramatize the idea? I was thinking of someone who said they oppose universal Healthcare because they don't want you stand in line with riffraff. If everyone can afford to see a doctor then imagine how long the wait will be at the doctor's office. Now, I am tempted to start with this line as theme, as exposition, as character description, but why not make it an actual thing that happens. What if Mr. X goes to the doctor and suddenly everyone can afford to go to the doctor? Mr. X leaves in disgust! Or perhaps before he leaves something else happens to challenge his core belief that people who worked hard can afford to go to the doctor and those who cannot afford private insurance are lazy? Perhaps he meets a construction worker. Perhaps he bears up the guy. Now he has to meet the guy again. Perhaps his roof runs a leak. Now he has yo ask this guy for help…and we start.
